Sign-Up/Character Creation
To play Justice Online, you must have at least one ‘Title.’ A Title is like the series of comics/TV shows/movies etc. that feature your character(s). Simply sign-up then post a character. All original characters/titles will be approved. Characters and Titles from existing franchises are not allowed and will be rejected. (No Superman, Iron man, or even Doom Patrol. I will check.)
The following is a template for character creation. Describe both the title and the main character(s) in the New Characters section of the Game forums using a single thread with the Title as the subject line. (Write it out in another program first if you need to.) New characters will be approved or denied on a case by case basis (in the order they're posted) within about a week.
FOR EACH TITLE
Title: The name of the comic in which your character(s) star.
Genre: The thematic genre or crossover of genres used as the Title's main "look and feel".(e.g. Sci/Fi, Horror, Suspense, Comedy etc.)
Origins: This is the first roleplay. Write a decent amount of character introduction and development. Like all roleplays. It can be as short or as long as you want, but length helps get the character across.
FOR EACH CHARACTER
Name: Super Hero Name
Secret Identity: Real Name (if applicable)
Male or Female
Age: List an exact or approximate age for the character.
Appearance: Briefly describe the appearance of the character. What do look like, what do they wear, do they use a particular color scheme? and so on. Be creative.
Powers & Skills: List any and all super powers and/or special skills they have. They can get more through natural evolution of their story, and the number of powers has no impact on the judging of roleplays.
Critical Preexisting Relationships: Any friend, relative, love interest etc. this character has that might effect their stories.
Weaknesses: What impedes them more than anything else. It can something that actually cripples them, or just something that distracts them or otherwise adds antagonistic elements to the narrative.
Cause, Motives, or Mission Statement: Why does this character choose to do what they do?
Feel free to offer any other facts about the characters, too. The above information is just the basics.
When a character is approved, your account will be added to our Approved Players list, allowing you to post to the forums more freely. If a character is denied you will be notified of the reason(s) immediately. All original characters created by players willing to participate will be accepted. If your character is not accepted but you feel they are original, please send me a PM and we can discuss possible revisions or misunderstandings.
Game Structure/Monthly RPs
The Game will consist of two alternate, equal universes. A player may post an RP about their character, or an alternate universe version of their character. The only rule is that you must post a complete monthly RP. (Bi-monthly if you participate in PbP games discussed below.) Each RP must consist of a complete story with a beginning, middle, and end. At the end of each month, each universe will be updated and their stories continued. The scoring system is being eliminated, and player-characters will now have an impact on the overarching story based on a general sense of how things fit together.
Play-by-Post
A new section of the forum is being introduced. Play-by-Post boards for a quick, on-or-off-topic game. These boards are for players to team up, go pvp, or just play an unrelated game in the back-and-forth PbP style. There will be five categories: Universe Alpha, Universe 323, Alternate Universes, Fandom Universes, and off-topic. The first three categories are a part of Justice Online, and the games played there may or may not have a chance at effecting the story arcs. The other two categories are totally separate and will never have any impact on the game world.
The rules for all categories are the same: No God-Moding! Be cool and give the other players a chance to tell their part of the story.
World Rules
Monthly RPs may not contain any direct resolution of the on-going story. The Story Arcs will play out, and you will be let know when it’s effecting your personal story arc, or if you impact it significantly. You may use other players’ characters, events, and other ancillary things to enhance the feel of a shared world only if given permission, and even then only in ways that do not impact their continued use by that player.
Ownership
Everyone retains ownership of their own original characters and stories. I will use the characters and events in your stories only for the purposes of running the game. You will use my original characters only for the purposes of playing the game. If you use another player’s ancillary characters, etc. they retain ownership of that if applicable. Fair? Everyone owns their own and nothing else.
Community
The only requirement for continued membership is that you play the game each month. You are encouraged to interact with each other, ask for and give feedback to other writers and talk about anything you want in the appropriate forum sections. Anyone who stops posting RPs for five months in a row, or with repeated gaps in their posting will have their account deleted and character(s) archived for administrative convenience after I reach out to you with reasonable warning.
How to get Banned
1. Excessively rude or inflammatory comments directed at myself or other players.
2. Attempting to get personal information from our players.
3. Repeated or extended absence in posting roleplays.
4. Other actions that garner my disapproval. (I won't kick you for no good reason.)
Thank you for reading the rules and regulations. You're now ready to create a character and start playing.
